Sweet Home Tennessee! Robert’s not just an award-winning country performer. He’s also a great friend and at one time was a neighbor (before moving to Nashville.) In many ways his story represents the hard work and years of dedication of many who have followed that path.
He’d wanted to work on an auto-biographical song together, but we never got around to it. I’d already filmed a little documentary on him. Plus, I know the guy. We’ve written dozens of songs together.
So I decided to write the bio myself to get the ball rolling. I completed a first draft and then recorded a demo and sent it to him. Robert and his wife Augusta were chilling at home the evening I sent an mp3 to his phone and texted Robert, “I just wrote your biography”. After a response from Robert I’m not going to publish here… a tears of laughter emoji, he said “I’m gonna have to cut that one!” “Dude, you literally just made my wife cry!” Two weeks later, after working over a few lines together, Robert was in the studio with band members from Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen to do the recording.
